What to Expect During Your Massage
If massage is new to you, it is natural to feel nervous or apprehensive. At OM Massage Therapy, all sessions take place in a warm, comfortable, private room. Prior to your massage you will be asked about your reasons for your visit. Questions will cover your medical history, your current medical condition including areas of discomfort or pain, and other relevant topics. Asking these questions means that your needs can be addressed correctly.
Why is Massage Beneficial
Massage is always beneficial if it is done in a way that is appropriate for each individual person.
Massage enhances two of the main functions of the body. The delivery of nutrients to the trillions of cells in the body, and the elimination of waste from the trillions of cells in the body. Massage aids these processes through the dilation of blood vessels and relaxing muscles which improves blood-flow and the movement of cleansing lymph fluids through the body.
Massage helps relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, and evoke feelings of calmness. Although massage affects the body as a whole, it particularly influences the activity of the musculoskeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems.
What is Remedial Massage?
Remedial Massage is a non-invasive holistic treatment for the whole body, as well as the area being treated. It provides relief through manual manipulation of the soft tissue, skin, fascia, muscles, tendons and joints through various massage techniques as well as stretching. Remedial Massage can be gentle, strong, deep or shallow. It holistically addresses the whole body and the therapy traces the discomfort as far back to the original cause and addresses both the cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms.
Preparing for your massage
You will be asked to undress in private and drape yourself with the towel provided to you by the therapist. The only clothing that should be left on is underwear.
You will be asked to lie face down, or face up on the comfortably padded massage table, and then press a button which signals your therapist that it is okay to enter. Only the body area that is being massaged will be undraped at any given time, to ensure that your modesty and privacy is respected at all times.
Receiving your massage
During your massage try to relax and breathe deeply and regularly. When it comes time to for you to lift your arm, or move, allow it to be taken care of by your therapist.
If any technique performed is painful or unpleasant, for any reason, let your therapist know immediately. Communication is essential!
